SUMMARY:Charity Quiz for IOW Youth Trust with guest quizmaster Mathew Priest from Dodgy
DESCRIPTION:About the Isle of Wight Youth Trust\nLife can be hard but accessing support shouldn’t be.\nBy providing youth-led wellbeing and therapeutic support when it’s needed\, we empower young people to face life’s challenges.\nIn 1984\, the late Dr Christine Baksi\, a Consultant at St Mary’s hospital\, saw that young people on the Isle of Wight were not receiving the support they needed. Joining together with friends and colleagues she raised funds to purchase a building in central Newport. In 1985\, 1 St Johns Place opened its doors as the headquarters of the Isle of Wight Youth Trust.\nInitially working with children and young people aged 13 and over\, in 2005 we expanded our service to include working with younger children aged 4 and over.\nBy 2016\, demand was such that bigger premises were needed. Following a capital campaign launched in 2017\, the Youth Trust\, purchased 114 Pyle Street Newport\, and in September 2018 became Youth Trust House.\nWe further expanded our premises in 2019 renting the retail space next to our headquarters to develop a drop in Hub.\nJanuary 2021 saw the launch of the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) on the Island. Working in partnership with Barnardo’s and the Isle of Wight NHS Trust\, the Youth Trust supports the wellbeing of young people aged 5 to 19 in Island schools.\nWe are now the Islands largest independent provider of youth mental health and wellbeing services. \nHome \n \nAbout Mathew Priest\nKnown primarily as the founding member and drummer of the hugely successful ’90s band ‘Dodgy’ Mathew has subsequently gone on to manage various bands\, be a radio presenter (with a masters degree in broadcasting)\, teach drums to young people with emotional needs\, as well as running hugely popular quiz nights.

SUMMARY:Charity Quiz Night in aid of Out On An Island
DESCRIPTION:Launched in 2019\, Out On An Island – 100 years of LGBTQ+ History with an Isle of Wight connection is a heritage and oral history project brought to you by StoneCrabs and led by Project Manager Caroline Diamond and Artistic Director Franko Figueiredo. \nOut On An Island could not have succeeded without its team of over 40 people who have recorded\, researched and written about our local LGBTQ+ history and shared their stories with a passion to celebrate the diversity that unites us\, shining a light on the exclusion and laws that divide us. \nWe recorded 20 oral histories which were wonderful\, inspiring at times\, sometimes heart-breaking or just sad and others beautifully celebratory. These oral histories will be archived at Carisbrooke Castle Museum\, Island Voices collection and The Wessex Sound and Film Archives in Winchester who are keen to build on their limited LGBTQ+ archives to provide a more rounded picture of the past. \nWe visited both museums and newspaper and magazine archives to research our history. People generously shared personal recollections and items of memorabilia all connected to the Isle of Wight’s rich LGBTQ+ history.

SUMMARY:'The Quiz That Raised A Fortune' fundraiser for Motor Neurone Disease Association
DESCRIPTION:Former Cowes resident David Baker was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. The response of he and his wife Alice has been nothing short of inspirational\, and despite having to give up work\, running and playing in his band Bobby I Can Fly\, he has poured his efforts into charting the daily challenges of his gradual demise on a brilliant blog ‘MND Can Get In The Sea’\, as well as raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association who fund care\, campaigning and research to achieve a world free from MND\, and who have already been a great support to David and Alice. Here is David’s fundraising page \nInspired by his efforts\, the quiz will endeavour to celebrate this much loved character and raise loads of money for MNDA. Tickets are £10 per person and we ask for teams of fewer than 6 people. Please endeavour to buy your team’s tickets in one batch so we have an idea of how many tables we will need. \nThe quiz will start around 7.30pm and the Island Sailing Club will be offering a full menu from 5.00 til 7.00pm \n
