Description
The Isle of Wight Railway by R.J Maycock and R. Silsbury
The Isle of Wight Railway never truly lived up to the description ‘the detestable little railway’ bestowed upon it by American author Henry James, but it had its moments. The Great War did the railway no favours and it was with some relief when the Southern Railway took charge. Against all odds, the original line from Ryde to Shanklin has survived, battered but intact.
