Meet the Team

Say hi to your fabulous booksellers

Paul Armfield

Having fallen into bookselling by accident during the early 90s Paul spent the next 20 years working in the same shop by day, playing music by night. After a few years spent pursuing other interests Paul has returned to where his heart belongs.

A self confessed slow reader, Paul loves a novel that balances adventure with substance, he also enjoys poetry, nature writing and a good music biog.

Bookshop Manager

Charlotte Beadle

Never without a book, Charlotte has always loved reading from a young age, also a yoga teacher and musician she is excited to dive deeper into her passion for literature as a bookseller. From fantasy to the classics, historical fiction to contemporary, Charlotte can be found reading it!

Book Seller

James

Having grown up in a Cowes with no bookshop but a variety of colourful characters, James jumped at the chance to return to the town in 2022 and share his love of reading with us. A big fan of the classics, James is also partial to books on history and, increasingly, Scandinavian crime fiction. When not in the shop, you might find him running over the downs around Newport or nursing a pint of Guinness in a local hostelry. (If you ask nicely, he might even get the round in!)

Book Seller

Mat

After nearly twenty years working as Sir Terence Conran's publicist and ghost writer, while trying to juggle running his own restaurant in North London, Mat moved to Cowes to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Island life

Having escaped the madhouse he is now rediscovering his love of reading and the joy of books through the shop while studying for an MA in Creative Writing. He is hooked on American crime thrillers, adores publications about British birdlife and buying crazy kids books for his four-year-old son.
