Description

In 2018 Gift to Nature’s ‘Dodnor Rediscovered’ project explored the surviving kiln ruins of West Medina Mill, alongside the Vestas wind turbine factory on the banks of the river between Cowes and Newport on the Isle of Wight.

Arising from the project and incorporating further information that subsequently came to light about this historic area, MEDINA MILL REVISITED is a fully revised, more comprehensive and larger version of a previous work that told the story of the Mill, its development, the products made there and how they were produced and distributed. It tells of those who worked there and, when not on duty, how they enjoyed themselves. This new book also describes the remarkable community volunteers’ dig and what was discovered.

Dr Ruth Waller, former Isle of Wight County Archaeologist, says:
‘Thoroughly researched and updated with the results of the community archaeological excavations, this is a gem of a book which explains the development of the Island site that became a world leader in production of cement and the lives of the people who worked there. A wonderful addition to the important story of the Island’s industrial archaeology.’
