‘I put together the original draft of this work in the mid 1990’s, and much of the text appeared in serial form some years ago ”Island Rail News”, the quarterly journal of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway as did a few photographs… For its publication now as a complete work I have edited and added to the original text, and we have incorporated many hitherto unpublished photographs, including some splendid images from the camera of the late Denis Callender, reproduced with permission of Jonny Callender. We have also included a selection of colour images from various sources at the end of the volume.’ In this second edition ‘… some facts and some photographs captions have been updated.’
